Linda Smith is a native California artist who currently lives in El Dorado Hills, CA. She retired from Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, after 27 years as a registered nurse, to realize her desire of becoming an accomplished artist.
Linda is constantly evolving with her work, absorbing all the knowledge she can from books, magazines and fellow artists. Through years of sketching, painting and experimenting with new styles Linda strives to create a look and feel all her own. Every day is a new adventure in her life and in her art.
Through nature’s vivid colors and beauty, Linda is inspired to express her passion and interests on canvas. Her artistic focus and interests are western scenes, landscapes, people and animal portraitures in the classic method.
Besides spending time experimenting and refining her art, Linda enjoys traveling with her husband, playing with her schnauzer, Annie and two quarter horses, Sierra and Baily.
Artist’s Statement: I enjoy the process of starting my oil paintings by applying a pale wash of burnt sienna for warm paintings and a wash of cobalt blue for cool paintings; this color will cover my entire canvas. While the wash is still wet, I can start drawing my subject. My next step is to determine where the lights and darks are going to be. Taking a large brush or paper towel I lift the color off the canvas where the lights are shown. I work slowly during this phase of development as it is very important to create a good composition at the beginning, otherwise the painting will not be successful. Since this is only the under painting, it is easy to change or move objects and create an effective composition.
